Paris texas
From South Central LA, Paris Texas has quickly become one of the best duo’s in rap. A solid of rap, metal, and a little punk? I’ve seen slacker rock and alternative rap as ways to describe the duo, Louie and Felix, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth saying it. They can both rap, and Louie is the producing wizard. Listen to “Dr. Aco’s Miracle Bullets” and you’ll get what I mean. Going back a few years though, they met in school through a mutual friend and bonded over their admiration for Robb Banks (PSA, WE’RE WAITING FOR THAT COLLAB). In 2018, they formed, “Paris Texas” and soon released their first project (that hasn’t been scrubbed off the internet), “I’ll get my revenge in hell” which is still available on SoundCloud. The project is like a distant cousin compared to their current sound, but I’ll link it below because “nite drive” is a beautiful song that shows the Italian Disco inspiration Louie has mentioned in the past. They also hired Mike Ahern as their manager. A seasoned vet who manages Clairo, and has experience all across the industry, working with Chance the Rapper, KidInk, and Kendrick Lamar. They’ve released projects like “BOY ANONYMOUS” and “Red Hand Akimbo” featuring some production credits from the legendary Kenny Beats and Dave Cerminara. The group apparently experienced some turmoil last year and went MIA for awhile. But, all is well and it seems they’ve settled their differences with their newest single “PANIC” accompanied with a music video. You get a taste of their infamous sound. The music video is the two rapping inside a mosh/fight club. Every bar is delivered without fear over the mean and grimy beat. You feel like you’re on one of those shaky rollercoasters at your local Walmart parking lot carnival that’ll be packed up and gone in less than a week. You don’t know what the f*ck will happen or when it will end. But, that’s the beauty of Paris Texas. The single ends with Louie Pastel singing somewhat vulnerably over a guitar, and again, the picking up going out with a sweet electric guitar. They continuously evolve, grow, and experiment which I love. More recently, the duo dropped a new skit featuring Mac Demarco. One can assume they’re gearing up for a new project. Anyways, go listen. Paris Texas will be headlining some pretty big festivals in a year or two, so you might as well learn the classics now. As Schoolboy Q tweeted back in 2021, “Paris Texas… giving me life.”
